Hostility and stress predict insulin resistance - Yahoo! News

I saw this article pop up in The Heartmath Report this morning. It’s just a little more evidence that all systems are connected to each other. Stress and insulin resistance seem especially related. Perhaps it’s because we eat more sugary foods when under stress, perhaps the cortisol has a negative effect on the cells and keeps more sugar in the blood for the upcoming fight or flight it feels is imminent.

Stress and insulin resistance are two of the three “modern diseases” I focus on in the HRH Program. The other is inactivity, or a failure to exercise. All three of these factors weigh on each other–and compound each other–to promote serious problems: prediabetes, heart disease, obesity.

Like the article says, we can benefit not just from healthier eating and exercise, but also from “mind interventions” that help us relax and take life in stride. Easier said than done, I know!
