Separating Nutritious and Healthy

This MSNBC article does a pretty good job pointing out the difference between nutritious and healthy. Nutritious foods contain a lot of vitamins and minerals, but calling them healthy requires you to check out whether they also have a lot of calories. On the other hand, a healthy food has both low calories and high nutritional content.

You have to watch out for labels. I’ve found, for instance, that Kashi cereals, which are labeled as being about as healthy as you can get, are loaded with sugars. They have a Cheerios-like cereal, called Heart-to-Heart, which is a lot like candy.

I wrote a piece on how advertising made it look like the USDA approved of Lucky Charms. Check that out, too.
